to the coast of cancun -- or rather the yucatan on wednesday when it made landfall. here's a look at the beaches in cancun. strong waves and some pretty strong winds, too, you can see here. rainfall not looking too bad at the moment, but it did keep tourists out of the waters. hopefully, aw little better weather today, or rather thursday will allow for some beach time. once that system heads back into the gulf of mexico, we're expecting it to strengthen and intensify into a hurricane possibly before impacting the northeastern parts of mexico. so mexico looking at a second landfall in the days to come. we'll need to keep a close eye on its progress. plenty of rainfall too you will need to watch out for. meanwhile, two strong major hurricanes. pretty rare event. hurricane julia remains well out at sea. it was rapidly intensifying. right now it's down to a category 3 system. hurricane igor very large. remains a category 3 hurricane. it looks like it might be getting very close to bermuda. so we need to keep an eye on this progress as well. for the americas severe storms may impact pa

to belize and affects the yucan areas from cancun through southern mexico into tuesday. so we've got a -- this is going to be a very slow moving storm through upcoming weekend. after this point, it's unsure if it would move into the gulf or dissipate over land here. that's tropical storm matthew. the big story here in the states has been the heat. it was 90 degree heat. you can see it from dallas almost to chicago. d.c. was 93 yesterday. everywhere in red, the whole southeast and tennessee valley was in the 90s yesterday and today is going to be just as warm because that front shedding through st. louis and chicago. we have at least one more warm day before the cooler air arrives behind this cold front. there's the hot air, the heat pump with that high pressure all the way up the eastern sboard. on that front, we have rain for u this morning going into columbia, missouri, chicago, you will have morning rain for your commute, also. so the forecast for today, very warm in the eastern seaboard. d.c., near 95 degrees. but cooler for you in dallas, kansas city and chicago as that cool, fa

headlines yesterday. this is well to the south of cancun and cozumel. dealing with heavy rain, strong winds, power outages, mexican officials say that security forces took people from the coastal towns to shelter while others preferred to ride out the storm. did appear to have an eye on the radar that came out of belize to the south. it was a tropical storm, no indication it was a hurricane, it was trying to get there as it made its way on shore. sign of a strengthening storm that held together, now back over water. we'll show you in a moment. different story over the atlantic, really downgraded now, category 2 with 105 mile-per-hour winds. it's good news. we had two cat four storms yesterday for the first time in almost 100 years that we've had that type of activity and intensity in the atlantic. now down to 4 to 3. 125 mile-per-hour winds. we still focus on that. looks like it'll continue to down grade itself as it heads its way toward bermuda over the weekend. looks like a direct hit on the island. this'll be a big deal for that small island. no weather impact on the eastern seaboard as

. but a strong tropical storm this morning. it's missed cancun for the most part p. it's down here in the northern belize and southern portion of the yucatan and this is coming on shore with winds of about 65 miles per hour. sometimes these storms come across the yucatan, they can head up towards texas, but this one looks to stay south of that. we'll take it off the yucatan during the day on thursday. friday it moves over the warm water of the gulf again. that's when it could regenerate into a category 1 hurricane and then go back into mexico. so this is going to be mexico's storm over the next three or four days. now, we also have a really incredible event, we're observing it from far which is great, but we have two category 4 hurricanes at the same time out here in the atlantic. we have igor, of course, and julia really intensified overnight. that's now a category 4 also. the last time we had two major hurricanes like this in the atlantic, we have to go back to 1999. so it's long time. very rare. thankfully neither will affect the quuunited states.igor will e a category 2 hurrica
